Gadgets and Gizmos

Vacation Bible School

We are 'Gearing Up' for a great vacation Bible School! Hundreds of children and volunteers will converge on Grand Avenue Baptist Church for “Gadgets and Gizmos,” a three-day Vacation Bible School in July. This unique evening experience will be held July 17-19 from 6-8:30 pm.

With our evening VBS, we are focusing on the children of busy working families so that parents can provide their kids with an engaging and educational experience in a safe environment. During this three-night event, we want children to build strong relationships, have fun, and learn how they are uniquely wired to love God and love others.

Kids will experience “Gadgets and Gizmos” through a combination of large-group skits, dramas and music, as well as small-group discussion and teaching. And, of course, no VBS is complete without hilarious games and fun snacks!

By providing this evening activity, we hope to spark the creative imagination of children while helping them understand that they are “fearfully and wonderfully made” by their creator God. Through exciting activities, games and music, this can be a positive, life-changing experience for everyone involved.

This year’s VBS also features a special guest – “Grumpy the Robot.” Grumpy is a sophisticated robot, engineered and built by the faculty and students at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. John Martini, on the faculty of the College of Applied Science and Technology, will be bringing Grumpy and several college students to provide hands-on activities for children to explore the world of emerging technology.

More than a hundred volunteers will be on hand to provide a safe, fun environment. Each small group of 10 kids will be led by one or more adults, and many other volunteers will be on hand for recreation, crafts, snacks, registration, and check-in, as well as a team dedicated to safety and security.

Every building on the church’s 10-acre campus will be in use – including the 1,200-seat worship center, complete with specially-designed sets. The Kid’s Worship Praise Team, which leads worship every Sunday, will teach children high-energy songs, and impactful drama will be provided by a talented team of volunteers. Preschoolers who are ages three through five will host their own version of “Gadgets and Gizmos” in the Tiny Town Preschool Center. The gymnasium at the center of campus will be the site for age-appropriate games that reinforce the teaching concepts every evening.
